Anatolia American University Inspires Future Scientists Through Summer Biotechnology Program
This summer, Anatolia American University welcomed an exceptional group of motivated high school students to its Summer Biotechnology Program, providing them with the opportunity to explore the world of modern biotechnology through hands-on laboratory experience.
Designed to connect academic knowledge with real-world scientific practice, the program introduced students to advanced biotechnology techniques and research methods that are shaping the future of medicine, scientific discovery, and industry.

Throughout the program, participants worked in Anatolia American University’s modern laboratory facilities, gaining practical experience in key areas of biotechnology, including:
Exploring Molecular Biology and Genomics
Students were introduced to fundamental molecular biology techniques, including PCR amplification, restriction enzyme digestion, and gel electrophoresis, allowing them to understand how DNA is analyzed and studied in contemporary research environments.
Developing Skills in Microbiology and Microscopy
Through microbiology-focused activities, students learned how to prepare microscope slides, apply specialized bacterial staining techniques, and use advanced microscopy methods to observe and analyze microorganisms.
Applying Biotechnology to Real-World Research
The program also included an applied research project examining the microbial safety of soft-serve ice cream samples from two manufacturers. Students evaluated samples against established regulatory standards, isolated bacterial strains, and conducted targeted biochemical tests to identify microorganisms.
Beyond laboratory techniques, the program encouraged students to develop scientific thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Participants experienced firsthand how researchers design experiments, overcome challenges, analyze data, and draw conclusions based on evidence.
The enthusiasm and dedication demonstrated by the students throughout the program highlighted the importance of providing young learners with opportunities to engage directly with STEM disciplines and explore potential pathways in scientific research.
Anatolia American University congratulates all participants for their commitment and curiosity and looks forward to supporting future initiatives that inspire the next generation of scientists.
