The Dukakis Center at Anatolia University Hosts U.S. Midterm Election Voter Registration Drive for Americans Abroad
While midterm elections are nominally domestic contests for control of the United States Congress, their outcomes fundamentally shape international security, trade dynamics, and global governance. Because the U.S. executive branch relies on Congress to fund, authorize, and codify major foreign policy commitments, the balance of power determined in the U.S. November 2026 midterms directly dictates how Washington engages with Europe and the rest of the world.

In the spirit of public service initiatives, The Dukakis Center at Anatolia University hosted a voter registration from abroad drive to assist American study abroad students and eligible faculty to request their ballots from abroad. The event was held on Thursday 1 October 2026 on campus in Constantinides Hall. On hand were volunteers from the Democrats Abroad in Greece organization to assist both students and faculty to complete the online process. By logging into the Vote from Abroad.org link, https://www.votefromabroad.org/ volunteers assisted those eligible to request their ballots from abroad and complete the process for voting in the US midterm elections. This event was organized by Associate Professor Tina Mavrikos, a member of the Dukakis Center, and of the Political Science and International Relations department at Anatolia University.

Voting is the primary mechanism through which individuals directly shape public policy, hold elected officials accountable and give them the ability to influence the direction of their communities. Participating in elections serves as the cornerstone of civic engagement, empowering citizens to transform individual voices into collective action that sustain democratic institutions.
