Northeastern University London and Anatolia American University organize international symposium on Northern Greece during the Civil War (1946-49)

On Monday, 18 May, Northeastern University London represented by Dr. Oliver Ayers, and Anatolia American University represented by Dr. Maria Kyriakidou and Dr. Christos Aliprantis organized an international symposium at NUL’s premises in London. The symposium focused on Northern Greece as a Cold War borderland during and after the Greek Civil War (1946-49), and also included speakers and participants from City St George’s University London, Yale University, Charles University at Prague, the International School of Trieste, and the University of Athens. The symposium was funded by the British Academy-Leverhulme Trust small research grant “Imperial Transitions in the early Cold War: the UK and the USA in Thessaloniki (Greece), 1946-49”, which NUL and Anatolia American University run jointly in 2025-2026. Speakers presented their findings based on extensive research across the USA, the UK, and Greece, using interdisciplinary methodology ranging from history and political science to digital humanities, and advancing the research agendas of both partnering institutions.
