Anatolia American University and TCCI Highlight the Future of Innovation and Startup Funding in Thessaloniki

A strong message about the future of innovation, entrepreneurship, and investment in Northern Greece emerged during the successful open event titled “Turning Ideas into Reality: Funding Opportunities for Startups,” co-organized by the Entrepreneurship Hub of Anatolia American University and the TCCI - Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday, May 14, 2026. Held at the TCCI Conference Hall, the event brought together entrepreneurs, investors, academics, and members of the local startup ecosystem to explore the growing role of venture capital funds in supporting innovative business ideas and accelerating the development of startups in Thessaloniki.

Opening the event, the President of Anatolia, Dr. Panos Vlachos, emphasized the strategic importance of cultivating a modern innovation ecosystem that connects education, entrepreneurship, and investment. In his remarks, Dr. Vlachos underlined that Thessaloniki now possesses the academic excellence, skilled human capital, and institutional infrastructure required to evolve into a regional hub of innovation with international reach.

He also stressed that universities must play a leading role in empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs by fostering creativity, technological advancement, and global thinking. According to Dr. Vlachos, strengthening collaboration between academia, the business community, and investment networks is essential not only for economic growth, but also for reversing the brain drain and creating sustainable opportunities for talented young professionals in Greece.

Greetings were also delivered by the Second Vice President of TCCI, Panos Menexopoulos, and the Vice Governor for Digital Governance of the Region of Central Macedonia, Nikolaos Tzollas, who echoed the importance of innovation-driven growth for the region.

The main discussion panel was moderated by Dr. Nikolaos Chourvouliadis, Director of the Entrepreneurship Hub of Anatolia American University, and featured leading representatives from investment funds actively supporting startups in the region: Nikolaos Takas (Managing Partner, THERMI VC), Evangelos Kosmidis (CEO & General Partner, Loggerhead Ventures), and Sotiris Siagas (CEO & Partner, TECS Capital).

During the discussion, speakers highlighted that significant investment capital is currently available for promising startups, while emphasizing that investors are seeking well-prepared teams with extroverted vision, strong business planning, and the ability to scale internationally.

Particular emphasis was placed on the broader need to transform entrepreneurial culture in Greece. Panelists encouraged young entrepreneurs to embrace calculated risk and view failure not as a setback, but as an important and natural part of the innovation journey.

The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, reflecting the growing interest of Thessaloniki’s entrepreneurial community in technology, innovation, and startup development.
