Cybersecurity, Collaboration, and Student Drive: An Initiative That Made Its Mark
On April 21st, a remarkable student-led initiative took place at KE.D.E.A., bringing together more than 170 participants, academics, and industry professionals around one of today’s fastest-growing fields: cybersecurity. What made the event especially noteworthy, however, was the collaboration that emerged beyond institutional boundaries.
The organizing team consisted of students from the Department of Computer Science at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, led by Smaragda Baxevani. Alongside her, Ioanna Vouzoulidou, a Computer Science student at Anatolia American University, played a central role in transforming the initiative from an idea into a successful large-scale event.

At the heart of the initiative was a simple but meaningful goal: to give students an authentic introduction to cybersecurity — not as an abstract academic subject, but as a dynamic and evolving field filled with real-world opportunities. Supporting this vision, Professor Ioannis Papaefstathiou from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at AUTH participated as an honorary guest, contributing valuable academic insight and credibility to the event.
Bridging theory with practice, Netcompany delivered an interactive cybersecurity workshop led by Mr. Periklis Nikolaidis, offering attendees a hands-on introduction to key technical concepts in an accessible and engaging way.
The organizers also demonstrated remarkable initiative in securing support from local businesses. Lemonis Modern Bakery contributed the event buffet, while Walk AUTH supported the venue, reflecting the strong community backing behind the effort.

More than just an educational event, the initiative created opportunities for connection, curiosity, and future engagement in the cybersecurity field. With students already proving their ability to organize projects of this scale and impact, initiatives like this suggest a promising future for similar collaborations within the university community and beyond.
