BS & BSc (Hons) in Computer Science

Brief Description

The BS & BSc (Hons) in Computer Science curriculum is characterized by a strong foundation in the fundamental principles of computer science, with courses in Programming, Databases, Web and Application Development, Computer Networks, Operating Systems and Security, Artificial Intelligence, and more. Students receive hands-on training in all of the above areas through extensive lab-based activities in every course. The program is further enriched by elective courses (either in-depth or enhancement) taken by students throughout their studies. In addition, all students have the opportunity to conduct their own research and apply the knowledge they have acquired during the final year of their studies through the two Undergraduate Thesis courses.

The BS & BSc (Hons) in Computer Science is validated by The Open University.

Learning Outcomes

The program aims to:

  • To equip students with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration for a career at the forefront of innovation or for further studies and research in computer science.
  • To provide education in Computer Science aligned with QAA standards, suitable either for a career in industry or for postgraduate studies. This education will cover a broad range of knowledge and understanding across all relevant areas of a rigorous curriculum, and will strengthen problem-solving skills and information literacy.
  • To develop the cognitive skills required by a computer scientist: the ability to model systems, to perform abstract analysis, and to communicate technical arguments effectively.
  • To provide the ability to critically evaluate computer systems, their performance, and their specifications, and to demonstrate high-level professional competence across a wide range of technical, legal, and ethical areas.
  • To instill a professional and entrepreneurial mindset in students and to develop a set of transferable skills that will enable them to advance and apply their knowledge and technical expertise throughout their careers.
  • To demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills in diverse environments where computer systems are developed, either working independently or contributing effectively as members of international teams.

Degree Requirements

The Computer Science curriculum (240 ECTS) consists of four course levels: Enhancement, Level 4, Level 5 and Level 6. To obtain the degree, students are required to complete 40 courses, including free electives. During the final three (3) academic terms, students may participate in the Internship Course (PRAC 300). The undergraduate thesis is completed during the final year of study.Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
