Program Courses

Brief Description

The BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary education spanning molecular, biochemical, cellular and organismal biology. In their final years, students may shape their elective coursework around thematic areas such as Biotechnology & Drug Design, Microbiology & Public Health, Applied Ecology, or Neuroscience, tailoring the degree to their own interests and career goals. The program aims to give students an integrated understanding of biological processes; to develop the scientific and research methodology to independently design, carry out, and interpret original experimental work; and to cultivate the interdisciplinary, computational, and communication skills - from bioinformatics to scientific writing - essential for a career in the life sciences. Through hands-on laboratory training, original thesis research, and digital and AI literacy, graduates leave prepared for postgraduate study or professional roles in biomedical research, health, the environment, and industry.

The BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences is validated by The Open University.

Learning Outcomes

The program aims to provide students with:

  • A comprehensive biological education, offering an integrated understanding of biological processes at the molecular, biochemical, cellular, organismal, and ecological levels, so that graduates are equipped to address critical global challenges in human health, climate change, food security, and biotechnology.
  • Strong scientific and research methodology skills, training students in the application of the scientific method so they are able to independently design and carry out research, analyze complex data, and interpret experimental findings.
  • Interdisciplinary and computational skills, drawing on the interdisciplinary nature of modern biology by combining core laboratory training with quantitative, computational, and bioinformatics approaches.
  • Critical thinking and communication skills, enabling students to critically evaluate primary scientific literature and effectively communicate original research findings through technical writing, digital media, and oral presentations.
  • Preparation for diverse careers and further study, providing the academic and practical foundation required for postgraduate research (Master's and doctoral level) and for employment in key fields such as biomedical research, health professions, environmental and ecological management, bioinformatics, science communication, and biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and food industries.
  • Professional and ethical responsibility, cultivating intellectual independence, teamwork, adaptability, and bioethical awareness, preparing graduates for lifelong learning and responsible scientific practice in global settings.
  • The ability to participate in a multicultural environment and to appreciate how others perceive concepts and ideas different from their own.
  • Digital skills that are a necessary foundation for the effective use of technology and for harnessing the innovations brought by Artificial Intelligence.

Degree Requirements

The minimum duration of study at Anatolia American University leading to the award of the Undergraduate Diploma is set at four (4) years, which includes the time required for the preparation and evaluation of the undergraduate thesis. The Biological Sciences curriculum (240 ECTS) consists of four course levels: Enhancement, Level 4, Level 5 and Level 6. To obtain the degree, students are required to complete 37 courses, including free electives. During the final three (3) academic terms, students may participate in the Internship Course (Practicum 300). The undergraduate thesis is completed during the final year of study.
